5GFORUM OF MALAGA SUCCEEDS IN ITS SECOND EDITION

The new business opportunities, networking, top-level keynotes and the environment created by professionals and companies from 20 countries have consolidated the triumph of the second edition of the 5GForum in Malaga

The 5G Forum started yesterday in the Digital Content Hub of Malaga with the visit of the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, and the Councillor for Innovation and New Technologies, Mario Cortés.

De la Torre visited during the inauguration the Demo Area of the 5GForum, where companies such as Nokia, Cellnex, Hispasat, Huawei, Orange, Cisco and the pan-European project 5Genesis have shown the 5G projects in which they are currently working.

During the inauguration of the 5GForum at the Auditorium, Francisco de la Torre stressed that “The world is advancing in the line of 5G and Malaga takes a further step in the consolidation as an innovative city”.

Jesús Martín, Head of Technology and Platforms of Samsung Spain, was in charge of opening the first block of keynotes, explaining the evolution of 5G and how this technology will influence sectors such as health, nanotechnology, immersive experiences, hyper connectivity, mobility, etc.

For his part, Federico Ruiz, director of the National 5G Observatory, explained in his speech the impact of 5G in the different industrial sectors in Spain.

Darko Ratkaj, Senior Project Manager of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), then explained the opportunities generated by 5G for the production and dissemination of content in the European public media sector.

After the presentation by Darko Ratkaj, promoted by ExtendaPere VilaRTVE’s Director of Technology, Innovation and Systems, explained to the audience how RTVE is going to work on different 5G and 4K projects.

Álvaro Villegas, director of Nokia Bell Labs Spain, has been in charge of exposing the innovations that the company is carrying out in 5G technology, after a moment of networking where attendees have been able to have a first contact.

Nokia presents during the 5GForum 6 demos based on the 5G applied to different cases of uses, among which is a demo of health emergencies that have taken place in the courtyard of the Digital Content Hub of Málaga.

Nokia wants to prove how emergency management services can benefit from these new technologies by creating a rapid assistance and intervention plan, which improves response times and coordinates the different emergency services in an efficient and simple way.

The first morning continued with the intervention of Virginia Teixeira, main Systems Engineer Service Providers Networks EMEAR of Cisco. Under the title “5G, building the foundation for the future”, Virginia explained that “we have to build a network capable of adapting to the demands of the moment. Digitization in general is the way forward”.

Aitor Rubio, Senior Product Strategy Manager of Cellnex, highlighted in his speech the different 5G solutions in which the company is working in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Spain.

Javier Gutiérrez, Telefónica’s Director of Network Strategy and Development, was in charge of closing the morning session of the first day of the 5GForum 2019, telling us about how they bring 5G to their customers from the telecommunications company.

Gutiérrez presented different solutions such as connected automobiles, Edge Computing technology projects or Mixed Reality applications that are being developed thanks to 5G from Telefónica.

At midday, those attending the 5GForum enjoyed a “Networking cocktail”sponsored by Red Eléctrica de Infraestructuras de Telecomunicación (Reintel) and offered by Diputación de Málaga and Sabor a Málaga “El Sabor que nos une”.

In the afternoon session, Jorge Lago, Head of Sales Southern Europe of Samsung Networks Europe, pointed out that “the 5G is going to be an engine of innovation for society, for the Government and for industry” and explained the role of Samsung in the development and implementation of the 5G.

Ercole Rovida, Vice President Sales Iberia LATAM & Italy Wireless Network Systems Business Division of Intracom Telecom, explained the evolution of connectivity to hyper connectivity and what can be done in today’s market: “Companies have to transform to be competitive and do it at high speed”.

On the other hand, Rafa Garcia, Industry Expert of Keysight Technologies, has spoken about the use cases that the 5G is going to help, thanks to the bandwidth or the low latency of this technology. “The year 2020 will be the key year for the commercialization of 5G”, he said.

After Rafa García’s presentation, the attendees have participated in another networking moment, where in addition to exchanging impressions, they have had time to learn about the 5G projects that telecommunications companies and multinationals have shown in the Demo Area of the 5GForum.

After the afternoon break, it was the turn of the mobility block. Aitor Fernández, president of the Spanish Association of Connected Autonomous Vehicles (AEVAC); César de Marco, Leader EMC/Antennas development & Pilot Projects 5G of SEAT; and Daniel González, Market & Sales Manager Automotive Europe of Dekra, were in charge of explaining to the attendees where the mobility of connected vehicles is evolving and what solutions are being developed to make them a reality.

The first day of the 5GForum in Malaga ended with one of the “Happy Hours” offered by Cerveza VICTORIA of Malaga.
