The 5G Forum 2026 consolidates Seville as a hub for the practical application of 5G, AI and cybersecurity

  • The ninth edition brought together companies, public administrations and technology professionals to analyse how 5G, 6G, artificial intelligence and secure networks are transforming sectors such as healthcare, mobility, industry, emergency services and smart cities.

 

The 9th edition of the 5G Forum drew to a close, establishing itself as one of Europe’s leading technology hubs for exploring how 5G, the future 6G, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are moving from theory to practice through real-world use cases. The event, held from 12 to 15 May at the Cartuja Auditorium — managed by Yventu — at Sevilla TechPark, brought together companies, public administrations, operators, research centres and specialist professionals to share projects already implemented in fields such as healthcare, connected mobility, emergency services, industry, smart cities and critical networks.

In terms of attendance, the 5G Forum 2026 brought together 580 professionals at its in-person sessions and attracted 675 unique visitors to its virtual platform. Furthermore, the event featured 809 registered professionals, representing 337 companies and participants from 27 countries, with active participation from Orange, Telefónica, Vodafone and DIGI.

Major operators and technology leaders took centre stage at the forum

The 5G Forum once again saw the active participation of the leading operators with a presence in Spain: Orange, Telefónica, Vodafone and DIGI, who led some of the most significant discussions on advanced connectivity, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and the evolution of towards 6G. On the opening day, Teresa Llamas, Director of Public Administration at Vodafone Spain; María Jesús Almazor, Chief Revenue Officer at Telefónica Tech; and Mónica Sala, Chief Network Officer at MasOrange, took part, sharing their companies’ strategic vision on the future of the digital ecosystem and the new technological challenges associated with hyperconnectivity.

The event also brought together technology companies, public authorities, universities, research centres, and national and international organisations to examine how 5G is transforming strategic sectors such as industry, smart cities, connected mobility, digital health, cybersecurity, emergency services and smart tourism. The forum also served to raise public awareness of issues that are already having a direct impact on everyday life, businesses and public authorities.

 

Live demonstrations, networking and real-world applications of 5G

One of the major highlights of this ninth edition was the extensive exhibition area, where attendees could experience live technology demonstrations and learn about real-world applications linked to 5G, artificial intelligence and edge computing, developed by more than twenty participating companies and organisations. Throughout the in-person sessions, advanced solutions were showcased relating to autonomous drones, private 5G networks, virtual reality, edge computing, satellite connectivity, IoT and industrial automation.

The event also featured an exclusive networking area, designed to facilitate the exchange of experiences between professionals, companies and institutions, fostering new partnerships, business opportunities and collaborative projects within the digital and technological ecosystem.

 

Cybersecurity, AI and digital resilience: the big questions of the future

During the various sessions, the 5G Forum addressed some of the major questions already affecting citizens, businesses and public administrations: can someone access our mobile phones or steal our data without us realising? How are critical infrastructures such as hospitals, airports or transport networks protected against new digital threats? What risks exist today in connected cars, smart cities or IoT devices? Or what actually happens to the data generated by our mobile phones and connected devices?

The event also examined the future of hyperconnectivity and the role that technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, edge computing, satellites and future 6G networks will play in the coming digital decade, as well as their impact on the economy, security, industry and everyday life.

 

Institutional support and a commitment to female talent

The 9th edition of the 5G Forum once again enjoyed significant institutional support thanks to the participation of Álvaro Pimentel, Deputy Mayor of Seville City Council; Luis Pérez, Managing Director of Sevilla TechPark; and Julia Criado, Deputy Director-General for Planning and Management of the Radio Spectrum at the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, who highlighted the strategic role of Seville and Andalusia within the technological and digital ecosystem.

The forum also concluded with a day entirely dedicated to female talent, during which female executives, researchers and experts from the technology sector championed the role of women in STEM careers and analysed the impact of technologies such as AI, 5G, cybersecurity and digital innovation on society and industry. The session served to convey a message shared by all the participants: technological transformation will only be truly complete if it incorporates diversity, leadership and female talent in the construction of the digital future.
