23/04/2024
  • The three major carriers will discuss their latest developments with respect to 5G technology from May 6-10 at the seventh edition of the 5G Forum.

  • On behalf of MasOrange, Miguel Ángel Victoria, Head of IoT B2B, and Angélica Sánchez, Business and Marketing Director at Orange, will explain the advantages of this technology in both the residential and business markets.

  • Telefónica will be present with a session with the participation of Juan Cambeiro, Head of 5G customer projects, and Ángel Álamo, Head of LAN and 5G Marketing, which will review the present and future of “one of the most transformative technologies that have been deployed in recent years”. David Artuñedo, Head of Future Networks Lab at TID, will also give a presentation on the Future Networks Lab projects in Andalusia.

  • César Antón, Network as a Platform Design and Development Manager at Vodafone Business, will address the standardization of API networks.

The seventh edition of the 5G Forum, “Where 5G leaders meet”, will be held at the Nissan Cartuja Auditorium in Seville from May 6 to 10 in a hybrid format, with two face-to-face sessions, May 6 and 7, and three virtual sessions, May 8, 9 and 10. The event will once again feature the three main operators: Telefónica, MasOrange and Vodafone will share their latest advances in 5G and future 6G technology.

MasOrange and 5G+: more security and better service

MasOrange, which has recently become the leading operator in Spain by number of customers due to the merger of the companies MASMOVIL and Orange, will be joined by Miguel Ángel Victoria, Head of IoT B2B, and Angélica Sánchez, Business and Marketing Director at Orange. Both will review the current and future advantages of 5G and its most advanced version, 5G+ (“stand alone”), for residential and business users.

Miguel Ángel Victoria, will speak about the role of 5G in companies. “If we combine the power of IoT as a driver of automation and process optimization and 5G as a driver of a quality of service that offers real-time information and end-to-end security, we are facing an unprecedented opportunity to improve operational efficiency in multiple business sectors. For her part, Angélica Sánchez will review the entire universe of new services that 5G can offer to customers, and will also discuss other new uses yet to be developed. She will also talk about the guarantee of service quality and greater security that come with 5G+, thanks to which, for example, it will be possible to use applications with data processing in the cloud in real time.

Challenges at Telefónica, a century-old company

Juan Cambeiro, Head of 5G projects with customers at Telefónica, and Ángel Álamo, Head of LAN and 5G Marketing at Telefónica, will represent the Spanish operator in a session in which they will present the company’s panoramic view of “one of the most transformative technologies that have been deployed in recent years”, both for the company and for its customers: 5G. In this way, they will address the current state of development of 5G and will also analyze the “evolution and the road ahead” for a technology that “will help to face many of the future challenges such as education, medicine, AI and industrial automation“. They will also announce the most innovative features of 5G that Telefónica’s customers will be able to see throughout 2024.

David Artuñedo, Head of Future Networks Lab at Telefónica, will present the main research projects on future networks that the Spanish telecommunications company has underway in Andalusia, as well as their results. Artuñedo leads the Future Networks Lab in Discovery within the Chief Digital Office, carrying out innovation projects that explore new network technologies and new use cases.

Juan Cambeiro will also give a presentation on future trends and the value of mobile communications. “Efficiencies, mega sensorization, population evolution, artificial intelligence, energy, new computing paradigms, ubiquitous augmented reality…. What role will mobile communications and 5G in particular play in all of this?”

Vodafone and the standardization of API networks

Finally, Vodafone will be represented at the seventh edition of the 5G Forum by César Antón, Network as a Platform Design and Development Manager at Vodafone Business, a position he has held since February 2021. With extensive experience in APIs, César Antón will address the standardization of API networks, an intermediary between two systems that allows one application to communicate with another and request specific data or actions.

For Antón, “exposing network capabilities to external developers so that they can create new digital services is a reality today. This is achieved through APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that operators are starting to offer”.

The 5G Forum has established itself as a reference forum in the technology sector, as it is a unique showcase with a multidisciplinary vocation to present every year the use cases and success stories of operators, companies, universities and institutions.

All the presentations of this and previous editions can be viewed through ‘The Observatory’, the digital platform of Medina Media Events, where all the interventions will be available 24/365 for on-demand consumption, like Netflix, but free of charge.

The seventh edition of the 5G Forum, to be held at the NISSAN Cartuja Auditorium in Seville, is organized by Medina Media Events and is supported by MasOrange, Telefónica, Red Hat, Netmetrix, Huawei, ZTE, Mavenir, OFG, Vicomtech, Wavecontrol, Axión, the University of Málaga (UMA), Viavi Solutions, Nokia, Rohde & Schwarz, Gradiant, Hispasat, Gsertel, AI Funded, Opossum, and Gamma Solutions, among others.
