Flying drones and quantum security: Telefónica makes a strong impact at the 5G Forum 2026

• The Spanish operator will be at the forefront of one of the most innovative presentations, featuring live demonstrations of drones connected via 5G and a strategic vision on cybersecurity in the quantum era.
• The Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – at Sevilla TechPark will host the two in-person sessions on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 May, whilst the two virtual sessions will take place on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 May.

5G connectivity continues to evolve from infrastructure towards the enablement of advanced services that transform key sectors such as industry, security and land management. In this context, Telefónica will bring to the 5G Forum 2026 a showcase of its commitment to applied innovation, combining technological capabilities with real-world use cases that demonstrate the potential of 5G in operational scenarios.

This technological showcase will take place as part of the ninth edition of the 5G Forum – “Where technology leaders meet”, to be held in Seville from 12 to 15 May. The event, now established as a leading event in Europe, will feature two in-person sessions on 12 and 13 May at the Cartuja Auditorium —managed by Yventu— in Seville TechPark, and two virtual sessions on 14 and 15 May, bringing together the key players in the digital ecosystem.

Connected drones and real-time remote operation

On the opening day, Ángel Alves, Head of Drone Innovation at Telefónica, will take part and demonstrate the current capabilities of connected drone services over 5G networks. His presentation will address the value proposition of these solutions, their availability in real-world environments and their application in sectors such as security, infrastructure inspection and emergency management.

As part of the demonstration, a live connection will be established with T-Space, Telefónica’s remote drone flight control centre, from where a drone located in Huelva (Moguer) will be piloted in real time. This demonstration will highlight the potential of 5G to enable secure remote operations, with low latency and high reliability, which are key to the development of critical services.

Cybersecurity in the quantum era: towards future-proof networks

Telefónica will strengthen its presence at the event with the participation of Juan Cambeiro, a specialist in Applied Quantum Innovation, who will address the challenge of cybersecurity in the context of quantum computing with a talk on Quantum-Safe for the digital economy, in which he will discuss the cryptographic threat posed by quantum computing, which elements of our digital economy are at risk, and how Telefónica is working to ensure that its infrastructure and networks, as well as the services provided to customers, are protected using cryptography or Quantum-Safe technological solutions.

Under the ‘Quantum Safe’ approach, his presentation will examine how future quantum computing capabilities will impact current encryption systems and what measures need to be taken now to ensure the security of communications. Taking a customer-centric approach, he will explore strategies for anticipating risks, protecting critical infrastructure and moving towards environments that are secure against quantum threats.

Telefónica, innovation applied to the 5G ecosystem

In the exhibition area, Telefónica will showcase demonstrations of services supported by 5G technology optimised for low latency, thanks to the advantage provided by Telefónica’s Edge Computing, which enables delays to be minimised by processing data close to the source.

Telefónica thus reaffirms its role as one of the main drivers of innovation in the field of connectivity, combining the development of new technological capabilities with their application in real-world use cases.

The 5G Forum 2026 is thus establishing itself as the leading platform where operators, companies and institutions share advances, experiences and visions for the future, driving an ecosystem in which 5G and emerging technologies are paving the way for the next generation of digital services.
