Spain is positioned as one of the key players in the development and application of 5G technology in Europe. Through a combination of public investment, collaboration between technology companies and institutional support, the country has managed to consolidate a solid network of projects that not only modernise the communications infrastructure, but also promise to transform many aspects of everyday life.
From healthcare to transport, education, tourism and industry, 5G ‘made in Spain’ is beginning to show its potential. This capacity to innovate will be shared at the eighth edition of the ‘5G Forum’, already consolidated as a benchmark event for 5G and 6G technology in Spain and Europe, and which is expanding year after year to the rest of the world.
Seville will become the epicentre of 5G and 6G technology from 12 to 16 May. The Cartuja Auditorium -managed by Yventu-, located in the Cartuja Science and Technology Park, will host the three face-to-face sessions (Monday 12, Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14), while on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 the two virtual sessions will be held in online format.
More than twenty leading companies in the sector, associations, research centres and universities will be present at this forum. Among them will be the major telephone operators with a presence in Spain, such as Telefónica. Joaquín Segovia, General Manager of Telefónica’s Southern Territory, will participate in the opening day, will be interviewed on the opening day and will share with attendees the news, projects and challenges facing the Spanish company in relation to 5G technology.
Among the many innovations that can be seen during the eighth edition of the ‘5G Forum’ is a revolutionary project being developed by 112 Extremadura. Alejandro Alonso, Telefónica’s Network Innovation and Evolution expert, will present, together with Serafín Doblado, technical manager of 112 Extremadura – Junta de Extremadura, how 5G technology can help save lives in emergency situations. Leonor Ostos, Manager of Innovation and Strategic Projects at Telefónica, will be the protagonist on the fifth and last day of the event, dedicated exclusively to women, with an interview in which she will inspire young women who want to train in STEM careers.
Joel Zaragoza, CTIO and Director of Services at Netmetrix Solutions, will speak at ‘Cyber Day’, the third day dedicated exclusively to cybersecurity, about simulation, stress testing and advanced monitoring as key techniques for testing the robustness of digital infrastructures against cyber threats. Pablo Álvarez, CEO of Netmetrix Solutions, will discuss how the integration of satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) with 5G networks is revolutionising the global telecommunications landscape by overcoming traditional limitations of coverage, speed and accessibility.
Daniel San Miguel, head of GMV’s 5G Security Solutions, will participate in the first slot of the second day in person; while Patricia Tejado, director of GMV’s Secure e-Solutions Digital Public Services, will open the fifth day of the 5G Forum, the second virtual one, dedicated to female talent.
Sergio Cabrero, leader of the Interactive Media Technologies line at Vicomtech, will present the results and developments of the 6GDIFFERENT project, a research initiative arising from the alliance between the technology centres Vicomtech, Gradiant and i2CAT, which will come to an end in 2025. For her part, Zaloa Fernández, senior researcher at Vicomtech, will show how more intelligent and autonomous mobile networks are being built, capable of adapting themselves to changes in real time. José Joaquín Escudero, head of Advanced Mobile Communications at Gradiant, will talk about advanced communications in 5G/6G from an industry-oriented perspective; while Arnau Singla Manau, research engineer in space communications at i2cat, will share advances and challenges of satellite networks in 5G and 6G.
Alfonso Carrillo, Chief Edge Solutions Architect at OpenNebula Systems, will talk about ONEedge5G, an industrial research project aimed at investigating Artificial Intelligence techniques and Zero-Touch resource management methods (total automation without human intervention) for the efficient deployment and operation of distributed edge environments. Cecilia Jordán, Director of Business Development and Industry 4.0 at Teltronic, will present case studies of broadband networks and MCX technology in transport environments. She will also discuss FRMCS, a system that will revolutionise railway operations. Meanwhile, Juan Mas, CTO of Datatronics, together with Sergio Ibáñez, Pre-Sales Director for 5G in Europe at Oracle, will offer a vision of how the automation of 5G SA networks, in conjunction with continuous monitoring and learning, can help monetise the investment of the deployment and its evolution.
Cristina Peñas, commercial director of Axión, will moderate the round table ‘5G and the different uses’ during the opening day, while Araceli García Cuartango, CEO of Axión and Lineox, will participate in the last day of the 5G Forum, a virtual session dedicated to female talent, with an interview in which she will seek to inspire teenage girls who want to train in STEM careers.
Carlos Alonso, manager of the applications department at Wavecontrol, will explain MonitEM-IoT, a new solution for assessing human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF). Meanwhile, José Luis Alcolea, head of 5G Strategy at Hispasat, will delve into 5G NTN (non-terrestrial networks that integrate satellites with mobile infrastructures), a revolution for the satellite sector not only as a change of waveform, but also as an engine to open up new markets and a paradigm shift for the traditional day-to-day operations of a satellite operator. Inés Sanz, Head of Space Capacity Engineering at Hispasat, will be interviewed during the day dedicated to female talent, which will bring the eighth edition of the 5G Forum to a close.
Marina García Sahagún, managing consultant at Iplus|F, will address the environmental impact of technological development, explaining the possibilities of recovering investment in energy efficiency for the companies that make up the 5G technological ecosystem. Meanwhile, Belén Lanuza, CEO at DIHBU 4.0, will talk about Polea Lab, a pioneering Industrial 5G Lab in Spain.
Manuel Ángel Álvarez, Technical Sales Director for LATAM and EUROPE at Gsertel, will present a portable tool that combines mobile signal analysis without the need to be registered along with active network testing with logging that allows network performance testing. Maura Outeiral, Gsertel’s Business Development Manager, will deliver an inspiring message to future generations of women to achieve their dreams in STEM careers.
Mª Eugenia Taillefer, director of AIFunded, will talk about use cases of different chatbots. Gabriel R. Gonzálvez, CEO of Opossum, will share the projects of this company dedicated to creating immersive and interactive experiences that allow users to explore and interact with places and objects of heritage in a way never seen before; while Aitor Fernández, president and co-founder of AEVAC, will talk about 5G and autonomous mobility in an edition in which Salvador Mateos, CEO of Ingenalia, will also participate.
