DIHBU 4.0 boosts 5G and advanced robotics to strengthen industry

15/04/2025
  • POLEA LAB, the first pilot of the Polea initiative promoted by DIHBU, drives industrial digitization by offering free testing services.
  • The Cartuja Auditorium -managed by Yventu- will host the three face-to-face sessions on Monday 12, Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 May. Subsequently, the final two days will be held in online format on Thursday May 15 and Friday May 16.

The first industrial 5G laboratory specialized in cobots and exoskeletons in Spain is already a reality. The Digital Innovation Hub Industry 4.0 (DIHBU) inaugurated it in January 2025 in Burgos, within the facilities of the Technological Institute of Castilla y León (ITCL). It is the first infrastructure in the country dedicated to industrial 5G and cobots/exoskeletons oriented to the design, testing and scaling of new solutions. It is part of a unique project that will allow SMEs in Castilla y León to access these services free of charge.

Belén Lanuza, CEO of DIHBU 4.0, will speak about this pioneering project in Spain at the eighth edition of the 5G Forum, which will bring together in Seville telephone operators, technology multinationals, institutions, local, regional and national administrations, organizations, universities and leading companies in the telecommunications sector, which will bring together more than 70 national and international entities in a top-level agenda.

The Cartuja Auditorium -managed by Yventu-, located in the Cartuja Science and Technology Park, will host the three face-to-face sessions (Monday 12, Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14), while on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 the two virtual sessions will be held in online format of this event already consolidated as a reference in 5G and 6G technology in Spain and Europe.

A pioneering Industrial 5G Lab in Spain

Polea Lab is the first pilot of the POLEA initiative, promoted by DIHBU, and is focused on the creation of industrial scale-up laboratories focused on two key technologies: industrial 5G and exoskeletons/cobots. These tools, identified as being in high demand, are thus approaching the regional business fabric as a lever for competitiveness.

The main objective of the POLEA initiative is to position Castilla y León as a national benchmark in the industrial scaling of cutting-edge technological solutions. The project seeks to close the gap between technological development and industrialization, by means of enabling infrastructures that allow testing in environments similar to real ones. These tests are aimed at effective technological demonstration, obtaining conclusions applicable to industrial scaling and accelerating projects that connect supply and demand.

The 5G Industrial Lab has a dedicated 5G node, which allows the establishment of a dedicated private network within the Lab. This network is capable of testing, validating and scaling solutions designed for industrial environments or advanced manufacturing pilots.

This laboratory is equipped with all the necessary resources to test robotic systems, autonomous platforms, machine control system connectivity, high-performance sensors, digital twins, image processing, virtual environments and advanced data communication.

All conferences will be available for on-demand viewing through ‘The Observatory’, the digital platform of Medina Media Events, where each conference will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, free of charge.

The eighth edition of the 5G Forum is organized by Medina Media Events and has the support of Orange, Telefónica, DIGI, Netmetrix, Huawei, ZTE, GMV, NTT DATA, HPE – Aruba Networking, Vicomtech, Gradiant, i2CAT, OpenNebula, Ayscom, Keysight, Teltronic, Datatronics, Oracle, Universidad de Málaga, Axión, Wavecontrol, Nokia, Rohde & Schwarz, Hispasat, Circet, Iplus|F, Dihbu, SAPEC, Gsertel, Kenmei, Ingenalia, AIFunded, Opossum, AEVAC and Secmo Schwarz, Hispasat, Circet, Iplus|F, DIHBU, SAPEC, Gsertel, Kenmei, Ingenalia, AIFunded, Opossum, AEVAC and Secmotic, among others.
