THE CURRENT STATE OF 5G IN EUROPE, AND ITS ROADMAP, AT THE VIRTUAL 5G FORUM

03/05/2020

The 5G Forum, the main meeting on 5G technology held in Spain on May 6th and 7th in a completely virtual way, will reveal the current roadmap for 5G in Europe, through the European Commission and the 5G PPP association.

Peter Stuckmann, Head of the Future Connectivity Systems Unit of the European Commission, who will be the keynote speaker, will open the Virtual 5G Forum with a keynote on the vision and current state of 5G in Europe.

“There’s still a lot of homework to do, since the deadline is at the end of this year. So there is a lot of work to be done because now in some states the auctions are affected by the Covid-19 crisis, and they will be delayed, but we hope that we can still reach a fairly ambitious figure by the end of the year”, advances Stuckmann.

“The deployment of 5G will be delayed, but 2025 is still a very important goal”, Stuckmann says.

For his part, Carles Antón-Haro, member of the board of directors of 5G PPP, the European public-private infrastructure partnership of 5G, will explain the partnership’s commitment to the advancement of 5G technology in Europe.

Antón-Haro will explain the “roadmap” and the different phases in which 5G projects are found, such as 5GCAR, a case of use of connected vehicles; 5GMonarch, an interactive tourism project; and 5GXcast, a project of large-scale multimedia content distribution, among other cases of use of 5G technology.

“The ultimate goal is to see how the different vertical sectors can benefit from the use of 5G technology in their daily operations”, points out Carles Antón-Haro.

Virtual 5G Forum 2020, organized by Medina Media Events, is the main event about 5G technology in Spain and it will present the latest advances from professionals and big companies such as Samsung, Vodafone Business, Cisco, 5Genesis, Intracom Telecom, Rohde & Schwarz, Huawei, Hispasat, Impulsa Visión RTVE, Nokia, Axión and the Observatorio Nacional 5G, an initiative promoted by Mobile World Capital, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and Red.es, sponsors of the event.
